Molly and Matt are seriously such an adorably sweet couple! I am oozing with excitement to share the photographs from their session! It has been a struggle waiting so long to post these photos of these cutie pies. This past December 21st, my entire life got flipped upside down when my mom had a stroke. I was on the next flight out of town to be at her bedside in the hospital. Almost immediately after arriving to the hospital, I was completely unprepared for the doctor to share the tragic news with me. My mom had suffered an acute stroke, one that would leave her unable to ever get better. She was on life-support and they had no hope for any type of meaningful recovery for her. I was completely side-swiped. People have strokes all of the time and recover, right? Well, my mom happened to be of the 4% that ended up with something called Locked In Syndrome. I won’t go into further details at this time, as this post is not meant to be about that situtiation. But, it was during this whirlwind of an ordeal, that I needed to fly back home to meet up with Molly and Matt for their engagement session. It was a nice break for me to get back to doing what I love and share in the magic of young love. I think I really needed to have this break from my current reality. This was the first time I met with Molly and Matt, as they had actually booked me after I spoke with Molly over the phone. We really hit it off, and I could tell they were beautiful souls. So, meeting them in person for the first time was a real treat. They couldn’t have been more sweet… and as you’ll see… are they not just completely adorable together?
Molly and Matt had this to say about their story, thanks so much for sharing you two!
How we met:
We met shortly after I graduated college. I had recently moved home to Cincinnati and was working at an Animal Hospital while searching for a career in my field. A friend from work, Brittany, was having a bonfire at her house that night and invited everyone from work. Brittany also invited her brother Brandon, and all his friends. I grabbed my lawn chair and bottle of wine and headed over with a friend. When I arrived, I passed through the kitchen, grabbed a cupcake, and walked by a really cute guy. I didn’t think much of it, I was more excited for my bottle of wine and friends that were waiting at the fire. Through the night, Matt sat across the fire from me with his friends and I hung out with my girlfriends. We didn’t exchange words, we only exchanged a few glances.
A few days later at work, Brittany mentioned she thought I would really hit it off with her brother’s best friend, Matt. She gave me his number and we started texting. Immediately I noticed he was funny, sarcastic, and a goofball. He seemed different from other guys I had dated before. Matt asked me to hang out several times, but I always had something else going on. Finally, two months later, we set up our first date.
Before our first date, I was a bundle of nerves. I was expecting our first date to be a typical first date, filled with awkward pauses, nervous ticks, and generic conversations. From the moment I stepped into Matt’s jeep, it was easy. Our first date went off without a hitch. We went to an Italian restaurant overlooking the city and we talked about everything and anything; our careers, our hobbies, our families and friends, our dogs, our favorite foods, etc. There was never an awkward silence. Matt was so witty, sarcastic, and a jokester – humor has always been what I value most in a person. On the car ride home we conveniently got lost and had to spend another hour with eachother, talking, flirting, and laughing.
Matt dropped me off at my house and walked me to the door. At the time, I had just moved home from college and lived with my parents. Matt pulled away in his jeep and I was still smiling. My parents asked how it went and I said, “I’m going to marry that guy…”. From that moment on we have been together and now we are getting married.
What I love most about Matt:
While there are many things I love about Matt, I love his humor the most. Growing up I have always been a jokester; I love pulling pranks, I love being sarcastic, and I love laughing. I really value someone who can make me laugh, and Matt makes me laugh in every moment. I have never met someone who is so witty and can crack a joke or make a sarcastic comment so quickly. He brings light to hard times with his light-heartedness and humor. I love that he can make me laugh even when I am upset. He has also taught me to be able to laugh at myself when I make a mistake or feel embarrassed. He is such a goofball and makes every situation fun.
What Matt loves most about Molly:
I love Molly for her personality and sweetness. She always helps me through my problems and always has my back in situations. She always believes in me and is very supportive.
Proposal:
Matt’s parents were in town for the weekend and it was a normal Friday. Matt and I had decided that we would take his parents to my favorite restaurant that night, Masa. Masa has my favorite tacos and I was so excited for it to be 5:30 so I could leave work and have dinner with them. However, at 4:30, Matt called me and said he was working on an airplane at work (he’s an aviation mechanic) and that he would have to go on a test flight after work with the pilot. He said he wouldn’t be able to make it to dinner with us, but that he would see me after. Matt had told me stories about going on many test flights in the past, so I thought nothing of it. He then proceeded to say the pilot would allow me to go up on the test flight with him, but his parents would have to wait for us on the ground.
After dinner, Matt’s parents dropped me off at the airport. Matt and I boarded the private plane with the pilot. The pilot’s name was Steve and was very sweet. He had me sit up front in the co-pilots seat. I was extremely nervous since I am scared of heights but also because this was a ‘test flight’; meaning it was testing that the mechanical work Matt had completed was successful. We started down the runway and I braced myself – we accelerated to 150 mph and took off. Matt sat behind me and we admired how beautiful Naples, Florida is from 3,000 feet. The pilot decided to fly us over Sanibel, a place Matt and I have visited many times and adored. We were all looking at the Sanibel lighthouse when I turned around to smile at Matt and he was down on one knee. He asked me to marry him and being in a nervous/excited fluster I not only said ‘Yes!’ but I also said ‘thank you’. The rest of the flight felt surreal. The pilot was also a flight instructor and let me fly the plane. We admired the sunset and spent the rest of the flight laughing and overjoyed.
When we landed I assumed we would tell his parents the great news and then spend the rest of the evening at home. However, Matt surprised me again. Everyone from his work and his parents were waiting for us at the airport with a surprise party (good thing I said yes). We popped champagne and had appetizers. The entire night was spent celebrating us; our new engagement and our future together. Matt turned a normal Friday into the best day of my life and I couldn’t imagine a better way to ask me to spend the rest of my life with him.
